Frostbite Sprints, SI Amendments


Amendments to the NSC Sailing Instructions

    1. The racing programme may be changed from time to time as circumstances change. Members will be kept informed via social media and email.

    1. The make-up of the different fleets (starts) will be as follows.
    2. Slow Fleet. Any boats with PY greater than 1004 excluding Punk.
    3. Fast Fleet. All other boats, including RS 100
    4. The fast fleet starts three minutes before the slow fleet (but see recalls below).

    1. All races will be signalled from a RIB acting as a committee boat. The course shape (windward/leeward) is formed by an upwind laid mark and two laid marks at the downwind end (see diagrams below). The upwind mark will be left to port. The two marks at the downwind end form the start line.
    2. Following the start, the committee boat RIB will fall back to form a finish line with the starboard end mark. Boats will sail laps of the course leaving all marks to port.
    3. The number of laps is not specified. The race office will shorten the course after approximately 17 minutes of racing. There will be no shorten course signal. If a boat is hooted as it crosses the finish line it has finished; regardless of how many laps it has sailed. Average laps scoring applies (see 'Scoring' below).

    1. The start sequence will be 3-2-1-Go.
    2. 3 minutes before: Warning. 3 sticks. Sound signal
      2 minutes before: Preparatory. 2 sticks. Sound Signal
      1 minute before: 1 stick. Long Sound Signal
      Go: No sticks (or 3 sticks for next fleet). Sound Signal.

      The slow fleet will start 3 minutes after the fast fleet. The start signal for the fast fleet is the warning signal for the slow fleet.

    1. Individual Recalls shall be in accordance with RRS 29: The sound signal will be made but no signal will be displayed.
    2. General Recalls shall be in accordance with RRS 29: Two sound signals will be made but no signal will be displayed. The recalled fleet will 'join the back of the queue'. If there is no queue, the next signal made by the committee boat RIB will be the 3 minute warning signal for the recalled fleet.

    1. The finishing line will be between the committee boat RIB and the last mark of the course as shown in the diagram (section 7)

    1. Handicap Scoring: To obtain a score, boats must sign on. Late signing on is permitted up to 1 hour after the last race finishes. Boats will be scored on an average lap basis as outlined in RYA document 'Portsmouth Yardstick - Running Races'.
    2. Average Points: No average points will be awarded for sailors doing duties.

    1. A patrol boat will be on the water but in order to avoid contact between individuals in the patrol boat and those racing:
    2. People should only take part in racing if they are fully competent to do so in the conditions on the day. They should retire if conditions change.
    3. Racing will not take place if conditions are likely to be challenging (a conservative decision will be made in discussion with the RO and OOD).

    1. If it becomes necessary to abandon the racing, the committee boat RIB will signal with 3 sound signals. No visual signal will be made. The committee boat RIB may repeat the signal several times. All boats should come ashore and await further instructions.
