Youth Improvers » Youth Improvers Session 1
Aimed at children aged 8-13 and RYA Stage 2-4 standard, to provide them with additional time on the water & skills exercises to help with:
- boat handling*
- wind & tide awareness
- safely leaving & returning to shore
- basic rules of the road for collision avoidance
- basic seamanship skills
All non-spinnaker boats welcome - opi/tera/topper/feva/mirror/byte/laser etc. Please note club teras & fevas may not be available to hire due to use for club race training on the same days.
*While we recognise that capsizing is a likely (even essential) element of learning to sail any dinghy - and sessions will cover this on days with appropriate weather - participants who capsize intentionally, or need assistance to recover multiple times due to lack of experience in higher winds or tiredness will be asked to return to shore. This ensures that coaches remain available to make the most of the time available with the remaining course participants.
Please explain this to your children to ensure that they participate fully in the sessions they attend, but equally are not disheartened if they are asked to return ashore a little early on a windy dayLast updated 11:53am on 3 May 2024
