Commodore Intro

Netley Sailing Club is the most fantastic club and I feel immensely privileged to have been a member for nearly five years, on the Committee for most of that and to now be Commodore.

As many of you know I spend a lot of time at the club chatting to people and running socials! Occasionally I get out on the water myself but what really drives me is ensuring that every child gets in or on the water and has THE best time doing it. I love nothing more than seeing the progression in our kids, even in the five years we have been there I have seen kids taking part in Youth Week to now being full blow dinghy instructors in their own rights. Some of the dinghy instructors of five years ago are now running events at the club - it is truly wonderful.

The club has a fantastic program of events that runs throughout the year. With racing in all weathers - and for all ages. Starting at 8 and ending only when those sailing boots are hung out to dry for the last time. Our Training team are constantly running all manner of training courses - both shore based and on the water, from First Aid through to Instructor. But if racing isn't your thing our Sailaway team are often seen disappearing out of the club on a venture to a beach or pub somewhere in the Solent, I can highly recommend a trip out!

What truly amazes me about Netley is the number of hours that our volunteers dedicate to getting other people out on the water - it is always underestimated actually how much effort goes into this. So please, if you feel you have skills that could be utilised - be they DIY, Organisational or just a desire to be an extra pair of hands then please do get in touch with admin or any one of the Committee.

I look forward to seeing you around the club - and may be even sharing something cold at the bar on a glorious evening at Costa Del Netley.

Polly
