Commodore Intro

I am very proud to be a part of helping such a fabulous sailing club to run and support our membership I have been in the role since November 2018, prior to that I was Training Principal of our RYA training centre for the previous 8 years. We are proud to be a volunteer run club with over 800 members, roughly a third of whom are under 16.

There is a huge amount going on at Netley, based from our still shiny clubhouse that we finished in 2018 after a huge amount of work put in by many members over a long period of time an amazing testament to the volunteer culture at the club.

Here are some details

We are based in the grounds of The Royal Victoria Country Park, Netley Abbey on the eastern shore of Southampton Water. There is good launching with slipways that allow us to launch and recover at most states of the tide.

There is a full race programme between March and January, including:

  • Regular handicap racing on Sundays
    • 3-day regattas on most bank holiday weekends,
    • An evening series on Wednesdays (May to August),
    • 15 (including 3 dedicated junior) race series over the year.

We also have:

  • Regular escorted sailaways for cruising to local attractions (pubs and beaches usually feature!).
  • Safety boat cover during racing and training and other selected times.
  • Youth training most Saturdays through the season (check out the training page, there is way more than I could explain here!).
  • Friday Night windsurfing clinics.
  • Club Boats available for hire (Toppers, Lasers, RS Teras, RS Fevas, Catamarans, Topper Xenons, Hobie 405s).
  • A Large club house with hot showers, fully licensed bar, franchised galley and large patio area for viewing the sailing or simply enjoying the sunshine.
  • Dinghy parking for over 300 boats. Plenty of car parking.
  • Full calendar of socials including live entertainment and the our legendary annual Dinner Dance.
  • A large but secluded field within the grounds of the club where members can camp for free.
