Commodore Intro
Netley Sailing Club really is a fantastic place, and I feel immensely privileged to have been a member for fifteen years. Serving on the Committee for the last five years and now as Commodore is an honour I never imagined. I spend a lot of time at the club chatting with members, overseeing training, and getting out on the water myself.
What truly drives me is ensuring every child has the chance to get on the water and have the best possible experience. I love watching our Junior Members develop in so many ways here at the club many who started in Youth Week and Saturday sessions have gone on to become competitive racers following the national circuit, or watersports instructors themselves, running courses here at Netley, or getting seasonal jobs abroad, or pursuing a career in the maritime industry
We really do run a fantastic programme of events all year round, where we try to cater for everyone, including fun social events and utilising our great camping facilities.
Our Training team offers a broad range of courses, ashore and water-based, from First Aid to Instructor qualifications.
We race in all weathers, encouraging sailors of every age and ability to get out there and enjoy our well organised races, supporting each member's racing pathway from their first outings to their last sail.
If racing isn't your thing, our Sailaway team regularly heads out to beaches and pubs around the Solent a trip I highly recommend.
What amazes me most is the sheer number of volunteer hours that make all this possible. The effort behind the scenes is often underestimated, so if you have skills to offer whether it's teaching, DIY, organisational support, or just an extra pair of hands please contact the admin team or any Committee member.
I look forward to seeing you around the club, and perhaps sharing something cold at the bar on a glorious evening at Costa del Netley.
